Women wetsuit: which one is the best?

women wetsuits

Comparative guide women’s wetsuits

I have been surfing for many years. The main women’s wetsuit brands have passed through my hands on the market. O’Neill, Rip Curl, Roxy, Billabong, Hurley, Vissla. Today at Wetsuits Magazine we compare the best women’s wetsuits. If you are a girl and you are looking for a wetsuit pay attention because what we are going to tell you is of interest to you.

WOMEN’S 4/3MM WETSUIT COMPARISON

4mm wetsuits for surfing are designed to be used in cold waters between 12 and 17 degrees Celsius. 4mm in the chest area and 3mm in the legs and arms to improve flexibility. Next, I will evaluate the 3 winter women’s wetsuits that I have had:

1. Roxy Syncro Plus 4/3mm

Roxy is one of the leading brands in women’s fashion.Women’s Roxy wetsuits have an attractive and very well-kept aesthetic . But aesthetics aside, at least in my case, this surf wetsuit does not meet the expectations of a high-end surf wetsuit. In less than 3 months of use, the back panel came off. Using the warranty, I went to the store where I had bought it. The solution proposed after consulting Roxy was to fix it. They sent the wetsuit to their headquarters in France and the surprise came when I saw how they had fixed it.

Yellow sewing thread, which did not even match the color of the yellow thread used in the rest of the wetsuit. Being a brand that cares so much about aesthetics, I am surprised that they make this type of repairs that throw overboard the good work done in design and marketing. In the following photo, you can see how short-lived the repair was. The area came undone again.

It wasn’t the first Roxy wetsuit I had. But I can assure you that it will be the last Roxy wetsuit I buy . Up to that date, I had bought neoprene swimsuits from the brand, but the performance expected from a winter wetsuit is not the same as that of a summer surf wetsuit.

  • Opinion: Roxy wetsuits have a very well-kept aesthetic. Beautiful designs and patterns well adjusted to a girl’s body. However, I am not at all happy with this wetsuit.
  • Roxy Wetsuit Size: 2
  • Best: its aesthetic
  • Worst: its quality
  • Price: 270 euros

2. Rip Curl Women’s Wetsuit Flash Boom 4/3

The Rip Curl Flash Boom 4/3 mm has been my winter wetsuit for 2 consecutive seasons. A women’s 4/3 wetsuit with inner wool fleece, 100% sealed seams, and a chest zipper.

Flash Boom 4/3mm

  • Opinion: One of the warmest surf wetsuits I’ve had. At least until I tried the Premium Supercomp 4/3.5. With this model, I have been very happy. For the coldest days and since it doesn’t have an integrated hood, I have used a Oneil’s inner jacket .
  • Rip Curl Wetsuit Size: 4
  • Best: it is one of the warmest women’s wetsuits on the market.
  • Worst: a bit uncomfortable when paddling. It is not as elastic as the Hyperfreak or Hurley. After 2 seasons, it is noticeable that the wetsuit loses properties and is no longer as warm as it was originally.
  • Price: 410 euros (high-end)

3. Premium Supercomp 4/3.5 mm

The Premium Supercomp is the first 4/3.5 wetsuit I have. And that half-centimeter thickness is noticeable. Inner fleece, 100% sealed seams, and an attractive design.

  • Opinion: I really like this wetsuit. Discreet design with small color details that make it attractive.
  • Premium Size: 6
  • Best: quality-price ratio. It is a high-end surf wetsuit at an unbeatable price. Very warm.
  • Worst: putting on the wetsuit is a good warm-up to get into the water. It would be nice for them to release a 4/3.5 model with an integrated hood for girls. This model already exists for boys Supercomp 5/4mm and incorporates a hat with a wool inner plush. If they released this version for women, it would definitely be my chosen model for winter.
  • Price: 200 euros. Available for sale at Single Quiver.

WOMEN’S 3/2MM WETSUIT COMPARISON

3/2 mm wetsuits are designed to be used in waters between 12 and 17 degrees . In my case, and given how sensitive to cold I am, I even extend its use to water temperatures above 17 degrees.

1. Hurley Advantage Plus 3/2mm Women’s Wetsuit

Hurley Advantage Plus 3/2 mm for women. That has been the chosen wetsuit for autumn. The result, spectacular. I am sensitive to cold and greatly appreciate the wool inner plush this wetsuit has. Attractive design, super comfortable and stretchy, and also with that extra warmth that is appreciated if you surf in the Basque Country on rainy and cold days. One of my favorites.

Hurley Advantage Plus 3/2mm

  • Opinion: my favorite wetsuit for spring/fall in the Basque Country. Easy to put on and take off, stretchy and warm. Attractive design. A wetsuit I like and would buy again.
  • Size:
  • Best feature: it is without a doubt the most comfortable and warm spring women’s wetsuit I have ever had. Super stretchy and at the same time warm thanks to its inner plush.
  • Downside: it has stretched quite a bit on me. When I get out of the water, water bags form around my ankles.
  • Price: 275 euros. Available for purchase at the WETSUIT OUTLET by Single Quiver. Buy your Hurley women’s wetsuit with up to 40% off.

2. Oneill Hyperfreak 3/2mm Women’s Wetsuit

The Oneill Hyperfreak is considered the best wetsuit of 2019. I had the opportunity to test the 3/2mm version:

  • Opinion: the Hyperfreak is one of the most stretchy wetsuits on the market. Chosen as the best surf wetsuit 2019 . It’s a wetsuit I liked and used on the warmest days of spring. Sunny days
  • Best feature: a very comfortable wetsuit that dries faster than the Hurley as it doesn’t have inner plush. Very stretchy, easy to put on and take off.
  • Downside: for cold-sensitive people like myself, it’s a bit tight. It doesn’t have inner plush, and that is noticeable.
  • Price: 244 euros. Available for sale at Single Quiver.

THE BEST WOMEN’S SUMMER WETSUIT

The 1mm women’s neoprene swimsuit is the wetsuit I choose for trips to destinations like the Maldives or Indonesia, where both the water and outside temperatures are high. If I have to choose a wetsuit for a surf trip to the Maldives , I would choose a sleeveless wetsuit. Without skimping on special sun protection for surfing and spending many hours in the water. Remember in the Maldives, the water temperature is between 26 and 29 degrees. You will use the wetsuit not for cold, but to avoid injuries to the rib area.

Same recommendation for traveling to the Philippines.

If I have to choose a wetsuit for traveling to Bali, I’ll stick with a long-sleeved women’s neoprene jacket. Why? Because depending on the time of year I go to Bali, if the wind blows, you can end up feeling a bit cold in the water. Or at least I do 🙂

What is the best women’s wetsuit?

In this women’s wetsuit comparison guide , we are not able to answer the question of what is the best wetsuit for women on the market. It will all depend on the use you are going to give to the suit, your budget, and whether you prioritize elasticity and comfort over warmth. In my case, I am clear about it. I prioritize warmth over elasticity and comfort. I don’t care as much if the suit dries quickly, since I have the Surflogic Wetsuit Dryer and I don’t need to have 2 suits per season.

The best women’s winter wetsuit

Undoubtedly the Oneill Hyperfreak. Why? For its quality-price ratio. For the sizing pattern and how confortable it is.

The best women’s 3/2mm wetsuit

For me, the best women’s wetsuit for spring is the Hurley Advantage Plus . Why? For its elasticity, comfort, and that extra warmth it gives to girls who are more sensitive to the cold compared to models like the Hyperfreak from Oneill.

This evaluation is based on my personal experience. I still need to try brands like deeply, xcel and the women’s wetsuits from Decathlon. I hope this guide has been useful to you.
